These are the latest pieces from the studio.
Platter: The primary wood is pecky cyprus Swamp north of Moblie AL. Just after the civil war a company went into the cyprus woodland and cut the trees. A virus had attacked many of them and they were not good for lumber, so the trees that had the virus were felled and left in the swamp. In 2003 (some 35 years later) lumber man from Denton, TX went hunting in the area and found the trees retrived some and took them to his lot where he cut them into boards and dried them. The water preserved the wood. The trim wood is walnut (domestic). The size is 16' W X 3" H

Bowl: Redwood burl with zebra wood trim

Toy soldiers: The wood is poplar (domestic) hand painted the face is carved and hand painted. All joints are articulated. One of the soldiers has his horn and the other toy their drums. The finished height of the soldiers is 3ft. Are handsome guards at the entry or fireplace all year or just special Christmas decor.

Bowl: Maple burl with trim colors of yellow heart (India) and osage orange (Texas). The size is 8 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" wide.

Platter: Queensland Maple platter with textured edge is 14" in diameter.

Platter: Lace redwood burl platter with copper leaf edge acid treatred.

Box: The primary wood is New Guinea Rose wood (Australia) The trim is various hardwoods in the parquetry star in the center of the lid. The size is 8" x 5."

Vase: The primary wood is maple burl (Oregon) with the trim around the shoulder parquetry key design. The size is 8" x 9"
Bowl: The primary wood is Red wood burl (California) with the shoulder a form of the Greek key design (parquetry). Unlike most of Alex's work being staved construction this is made of one solid peace to show the wonderful pattern of the piece of red wood. The size is 12" x 5"
Platter: The primary wood is maple burl (Oregon) with a distressed edge of the platter being burned. The size is 12".
Platter: The primary wood is domestic poplar with a stickware star of various hardwoods. The alder comes in shades of tan to purple and green. The various colors are a rarity. The edge is a copper patena. The size is 15"
Vase: The primary wood is redwood burl (California) with parquerty shoulder. Another piece using a solid piece of redwood to emphasize the design of the wood. The shoulder is maple burl. The size is 10 1/2" x 9".
Vase: The primary wood is maple burl (Oregon). The trim is another parquetry design on the shoulder. The size is 10 1/2" x 9"
Humidor: The primary wood is walnut (domestic). The lineing of the lid and the interior box is Spanish Cedar (unsealed to retain the aroma of the wood). The trim in the top of the lid and the lines on the sides is teak. The size is 9" x 6"
Wall hanging: The wood is Queensland maple (Australia). The size is 18" x 11"
